The Client
Arboreal processes sawn timber for the construction industry. Operations cover the entire chain, from log reception to final grading and packaging. Quality checks were carried out on paper and scattered Excel files, with no real-time traceability or alerts.
The Challenge
- Fragmented data – measurements and counts took days to consolidate.
- No instant visibility of critical deviations (off-spec logs, dimensional errors, wrong grading).
- Harsh working conditions – quality inspectors move among timber stacks and running machinery; Wi-Fi is patchy.
- Scalability – the first release had to digitalize 10 high-priority checks and lay the groundwork for 30+ additional checks and automatic data capture from mill equipment.

Designed for rugged Android tablets: large buttons, high contrast, and ultra-streamlined input (± counters by default, required fields highlighted, instant validation).
Fast capture, even offline
- Offline-first mode – every record is stored locally and syncs automatically once a signal is detected; there's no "timeout".
- Built-in audit trail – user and timestamp logged on every entry.
Ten critical checks fully digitised
Each form calculates averages and deviations on the spot. Inspectors can review a scrollable history, and a weekly report consolidates KPIs ready for Power BI. Threshold breaches (e.g. sorting error > 7%) trigger automatic alerts to Production.
