An official "No call" list for phone sales pitches

An official

Guzmán Acosta y Lara, Uruguay's national Telecommunication director, spoke about the new National No Call Registry.

Starting on Friday April 30th, users from different telecommunications providers can add their name to Uruguay's new National No Call Registry list to avoid being contacted by companies who do phone sales pitches, be it to promote offers or discounts on cellphones, credit and debit cards, among different services, as was announced by Uruguay's national Telecommunication director Guzmán Acosta y Lara.

The list was created through article 181 of the 2021 Budget Bill, and it was recently approved.

According to Guzmán Acosta y Lara, in order to add your name to the list one must turn to "every telecommunication provider they use" and it can only be done by the person whose name is on the bill.

Channels to go through this process

This depends on the company, it could be online, in-person or through an app. Starting next week, "an option to send a text to a common number will be available for notifying one's will to be added to the registry and left alone", according to director Acosta y Lara.

Within five working days, "Ursec (Uruguay's national telecommunication regulation agency) must be notified of the phone number that wishes not to be bothered". This registry, Acosta y Lara states, "will not be public for all to see" and it will only be accessed by "companies wishing to partake in marketing campaigns where they must be aware of what numbers they're not allowed to call".
