Developing an app for my business, yes or no?

Developing an app for my business, yes or no?

Perhaps a question many business managers ask themselves today. We go over key points to consider when deciding to develop an app

At Solcre we regularly welcome different businesses and even entrepreneurs with one recurring idea in common: Designing and developing an app.

In all cases there's one question we must first ask ourselves: Do we believe people will be willing to download our app and let it take up space in their devices?

All of us prefer to only have useful apps on our devices, and every app that isn't or has stopped being useful will most likely be uninstalled and deleted. For a benchmark, some reports estimate that users have installed an average of 30 apps but only use 8 on a daily basis and about 35 monthly.

Perhaps it's strange for a company that designs and develops apps to in a way "discourage" carrying some of these projects out, but our main concern is developing apps that are truly useful for their users and actually have the potential to make businesses grow.

Which is why we usually suggest to first do a thorough research of our audience, our value offer and mostly our business; and from there determine whether it's really necessary.

Some key questions we must ask ourselves

  • What problems will it solve?
  • Is there no other app that can solve the same problem?
  • Why would users choose my app in particular?
  • Would it be a more comfortable experience to use my app than my website?
  • How often will it be used? This is key information. If they'd use it once a week, for example, it would be very much justifiable.
  • How many uses will it have? Also key information, since users must know exactly how it will help them.

Important points

Staying current, it's important to consider that an app must be up to date regarding both its content and the technology it uses given that operating systems are updated regularly and if we don't release new versions to match, our app could be left unusable in some devices.

Operating systems, we should take into account that our app needs to work in as many devices and operating system versions as possible, though we'll still likely get complaints about less popular devices.

Communication channel, an app can become a very valuable communication tool for any organization. Within it we have the option to send notification messages straight to our audience's mobile devices.

Monitoring, it will be hugely important to track app usage, since this will help us optimize it according to how its users tend to behave.

To sum up, an app merely to say "I have an app" serves absolutely no purpose. Therefore, developing an app for my business must be a thoroughly thought-through, analyzed and focused process for us to really be able to expect good results.

At Solcre we not only work designing and developing apps, but we also have a number of services available related to brand presence and expansion, always focusing on bringing real value to your business' customers.
